Why to you call the program Maileet?
Maileet is a concatenation of the word "Mail" and the word "Leet". What is "Leet" you ask? It is internet slang for "Elite" - used to describe experienced internet users. So Maileet is basically a short for Mail Elite and pronounced Mail - It.
Maileet - What is it good for?
Use Maileet to send big files to your friends even if they are behind a firewall. Many times you find yourself unable to send a file to someone either since the file is too big and you cannot mail it, or your friend is behind a mean firewall. Maileet is the best solution to your problems. Now you can send heavy Power Point presentation to your colleagues or send that 700Megs media file (Family photos of course what did you think?) to your many friends with only one upload.
Does Maileet cost money?
No.
How do I uninstall Maileet?
Maileet can be uninstalled through the usual process of going to the ‘START’ menu, selecting 'Control Panel' and opening the 'Add/Remove Programs' option. Simply find 'Maileet' in the list of programs, click 'Change/Remove' and follow the prompts. In the unlikely event that you have any problems uninstalling Maileet, you may have to go into the program files folder (or where it was installed) and delete it manually.
How does Maileet work?
Maileet uses the common mail servers (SMTP/POP3) to send and receive files. Since virtually every computer can send and receive emails Maileet can work behind any firewall and will not be blocked. In order to deal with huge files, Maileet cuts the file into small segments (2Megs max) and sends them to the recipients. The recipients on their side must set Maileet on receive mode and waiting for incoming segments. Maileet will download segment after segment and will merge them into the final file. It is important to make sure that the recipients set their client to receive mode since their client is responsible for the download of the segments and making space for the next segments.
Can someone spy on what I am sending or receiving?
No. Each segment is zipped and then encrypted using AES encryption. There is no way to find out what you are sending or receiving.
If I send a file to many recipients, can a recipient see the other recipient's addresses?
No by default, all sends are sent to undisclosed recipients. You can change that if you want: Go to Settings->Mail Server->Advanced and check the 'Disclose Recipients' checkbox.
Where can I find free SMTP/POP3 servers?
We can only recommend you to search google.com for the keywords "free pop3 smtp", we guarantee you will find what you were looking for.
I can't find any working SMTP server and I don't want to use the one my ISP gave me, can I still use Maileet?
Sure, go to settings -> General -> Transfer. Choose the 'Direct Send' option. Maileet will send the segments directly to the recipients one by one. The only down side is that you cannot send a file to many recipients with only one upload. The up side is that you can still use Maileet to send files to your friends even if they are behind a firewall.
I get an error when I try to send a file, what to do?
Make sure you are connected to the internet. Read the error on the details window - it might give you some idea about the reason why you were unable to send the file. There is an XML log file created in the source file directory, it might shed a little light about the problem. Go to settings, choose "E-Mail Settings", and click on the "Test" button. Make sure it shows a success message, if not then there might be a problem with your SMTP server. The problem might happen since your SMTP server requires authentication, go to the "Advanced" option and check the "Required Authentication" check box, enter your SMTP user name and password or just click on the "Same as POP3 logon information". Try sending the file again.
I get an error when I try to receive a file, what to do?
Make sure you are connected to the internet. Read the error on the details window - it might give you some idea about the reason why you were unable to send the file. Go to settings, choose "E-Mail Settings", and click on the "Test" button. Make sure it shows a success message, if not then there might be a problem with your POP3 server. Make sure your user name and password are correct.
I just started to receive the file and already I see the complete file on my hard drive, is it already there?
No. This file is a place holder. Maileet fills this file with the data as it receives segments. This place holder can be filled with data at any time, so even if you stopped a session and then continue to receive after a while, Maileet will fill the data on the same file so you can always resume a session.
What is the 'Maileet service'? What does it do?
Maileet service is a system service that runs in the background and queries your pop3 server every 3 minutes for incoming segments. If an incoming segment is detected it will auto launch Maileet in receive mode to receive the file. You can set a password for this service to auto-launch Maileet only on segments that match this password. With Maileet service running you don't need to leave Maileet running constantly in receive mode, you can even receive files when you are logged out.
I accidentally left my mail client open and it downloaded some of Maileet segments, what to do?
Hopefully we will soon automate the solution to this problem but for now all you can do is forward the email to your address again and make sure Maileet is open and working in receive mode. In order for Maileet to recognize that the mail is a Maileet segment, make sure that the title shows: "Maileet Segment - Delete Me" and the body of the mail is the same as when you received it.
What are the start/pause/stop buttons and how do I resume a session?
To start receive or send a file you must click on the "Start" button. It will initiate the send or receive session. If you are sending a file you can also pause the session by clicking on the pause button. While the session is paused, no more segments will be sent until you click on the "Start" button again. If you click on the "Stop" button it will reset your send status and clicking on the "Start" button again will start the session from the beginning. In receive mode it is recommended to right click and choose the "Ask Peer to Stop Sending Segments" option before clicking on the "Stop" button. This option will send a message to your friend client that will ask him to remove you from his queue.
How do I save a session and what is it good for?
Saving a session is very simple, just click on the "save" button and choose a file name. Once you saved the file, Maileet will auto save the send or receive status. Next time you load the file, you will be in the last known status. It is very good if you want to stop a send session and wish to close the client and continue later, or due to sudden disconnection or power failure the session ended unexpectedly and you want to start it again from the point it ended.
I am receiving a file and I noticed my details window says something about sharing violation - what that?
Sharing violation usually happen if you open the received file while still in receive mode. If the program you open the file with "Locks" the file for writing, a sharing violation will happen and Maileet will not be able to merge the segment into the file. If you wish to use the file while it's downloading, copy it to another location and work on the copy.
Someone sent me a file and I don't want it, meanwhile my mail server is full, how do I clean it fast?
Simple, Choose the "Clean Segments on Server" option from the "Command" menu and it will clean the queued segments in a matter of seconds.
How do I tell the other client to stop sending me segments?
On receive mode, choose the "Ask Peer to Stop Sending Segments" option from the right click menu. It will send the sender a Maileet command that will ask the client to remove you from its queue.
Neither asking for a segment re-send or asking to stop sending segments works, what's wrong?
The sender must configure his Maileet client to use his real email. When you ask for a re-send or a stop command, Maileet uses the email it got with the segment; if that email is wrong then the request will not reach the sender.
How do I add/remove recipients from send queue?
You can manage the queue for a single segment or for the whole session from the right click menu while you are in send mode.
I started sending a file to a friend and after a while it says in the details it removed him from the queue - why?
This could have happened when your friend's mail box was out of quota. The reason is usually since your upload speed is much faster then your friend's download. Maileet can detect that he is out of quota and remove him from the queue. A solution would be to set a delay between each segment Maileet sends. You can do that from the "Transfer Settings".
I finished sending a file but my friend didn't receive all the segments. Is there an easy way to send him only the segments he needs and NOT send him the whole file again?
Yes. There are several approaches you can try. First, if you didn't close Maileet just yet then it is listening for "Requests" from your recipients. Your friend can right click on his Maileet client and choose "Re-Request Missing Segments"; this will ask your client to resend only his missing segments. If you already closed your client, you can get back to that position by starting over, choosing the file and adding your friends email as a recipient, then right click on the segments and remove your friend's email from the recipients list. Click play to start the session. Maileet will finish the session since it has no recipients on queue but will listen for incoming request - now your friend can choose "Re-Request Missing Segments" from his menu.
Another approach is to start over; using SHIFT and CTRL choose the segments your friend received and right click on them to remove his email from the queue. Click start to begin the send - Maileet will only send the missing segments.
I send a file but keep getting back error messages from my mail server: "unreachable recipients: undisclosed-recipients"
Maileet by default does not disclose the recipients it sends segments to. Some SMTP servers try to resolve "undisclosed-recipients" as a valid email address and fail. There are two solutions: Try using a "direct send" if you send a file to only one recipient, this way you won't use an SMTP server and won't get the error (you can use it even if you send the file to more then one recipient, but since Maileet sends the segments directly one by one it will be slower). Another solution is to disclose the recipients, from your Maileet settings, go to "advanced" and choose the "Disclose recipients" option.
